Grayson County Parks and Recreation Pool Rules

DECK:  General Pool Rules

  • Only US Coast Guard approved floatation devices will be permitted. Stamp must be present on device prior to usage in pool area. Pool noodles will only be allowed during cardio classes or learn to swim programs. For the swimmer’s safety there will be no exceptions to this rule.
  • Outside food or drink will be permitted into the pool area. Due to potential food allergies no peanut or tree nut products will be allowed in the pool area.
  • No glass containers.
  • No gum will be allowed on the pool deck.
  • Users will be allowed reentry with purchase of daily admission. Wristband required for reentry.
  • Non-swimmers and children under the age of 12 shall not use the pool without a responsible adult in attendance.
  • Please do not use the pool if you are feeling ill or have any open wounds.
  • Swimmers who are not toilet trained must wear a swim diaper with waterproof pants and elastic openings for the legs and waist.
  • No running or horseplay.
  • Breath holding games or other actions deemed unsafe or inappropriate by staff will be stopped immediately. If swimmer fails to comply, they will be asked to leave

DIVING AREA:  DO NOT ALLOW. . .

  • More than one person on the board at one time
  • A person to stand on the board until prior person has cleared diving well
  • Hanging on the board
  • Diving from the pool’s edge while boards are in use
  • Diving to main drain
  • Diving out toward slopes – must dive at maximum depth
  • Floatation devices in the deep end.
  • Floatation devices to be worn when using the diving board or deep end slide.
  • Someone to “catch” someone diving off the board or using the slide.
  • Other swimmers in the deep end when the diving boards are being used.
  • Divers are asked to exit the water, using the ladder, immediately after using the diving boards.

SHALLOW AREA:  DO NOT ALLOW. . .

  • Dunking
  • Excessive horseplay
  • Throwing people
  • Pulling people in from pool’s edge
  • Hanging on ropes, lane lines, volleyball or basketball nets/equipment
  • Hanging, jumping, diving, etc. from ladders
  • Use of vacuum adapters as steps out of pool
  • Playing with skimmer boxes

POOL SCHEDULE:

Monday–Saturday – 11am-5pm

Sunday – 1pm-6pm

  • Pool breaks will be called at 10 minutes til the hour between 1-4pm. The water will be cleared during this time.
  • The pool season will typically operate between Memorial Day and Labor Day annually. Pool hours may be modified while Grayson County Schools are in session.

EARLY CLOSINGS

  • If the temperature drops to the low sixties or lower the pool may be closed earlier than normal.
  • In the event of a thunderstorm – if thunder is heard the water will be cleared for 30 minutes. If lightning is seen the water and pool deck will be cleared for 30 minutes and patrons will be asked to wait in their vehicle or under shelter until the pool reopens. The 30-minute clock will restart each time thunder is heard or lightning is seen.

INCIDENT RESPONSE

 Solid Stool – In the event of an accidental fecal release the pool will be cleared to allow staff to thoroughly clean and collect debris from the pool. The debris will be collected in biohazard unit and disposed of properly. All skimmers, brushes and other tools used to collect debris will be cleaned with a bleach solution of at least 10 parts water and 1 part bleach. Once the pool has been cleaned the chlorine will be raised 5ppm the pool will remain closed for a period of 30 minutes to allow the sanitizing agent to effectively sanitize pool water. After 30 minutes the chlorine can be returned to its original set point and the pool may reopen.

Loose Stool – In the event of an accidental fecal release that is loose and spread across the pool area the pool will be cleared and the facility will be closed for a period of 24 hours. Any daily admission patrons present will be issued a day pass to be used later due to the inconvenience. After the pool is cleared, staff will begin clearing whatever debris from the pool is possible. The chlorine will be raised to appropriate disinfectant levels to ensure any illness or germs, such as e-coli, are thoroughly sanitized for a period of 12 hours. After 12 hours the chlorine will be reduced back to at least 5ppm. Once the sanitizer has been reduced all pool skimmers must be emptied, strainer basket must be emptied, and the pool must be backwashed to ensure that no remaining contaminants are present. After 24 hours the pool may reopen.
